Alcohol? Not until you are 18 years old!
The government has decided to raise the age for selling alcohol and tobacco to 18 years. From 1 January 2014 no alcohol or tobacco may be sold to young people under 18 years of age.
If a young person has alcohol in public places, he is punishable. It does not matter whether a bottle or can is closed or opened.
The amount of the fine is set at € 45 for young people up to 16 years and € 90 for 16 and 17 year olds. Public spaces are for example: the street, shopping center, station, park, cafe, disco or sports canteen. But beware: you are not punishable if you have tobacco with you. That is different from alcohol.
For sellers of alcohol and tobacco, this means that they will ask you more often for your ID card to check your age. Sellers can receive high fines if they sell alcohol or tobacco to young people under the age of 18.
